In August, the LA Dodgers and advertising agency R/GA picked their 10 finalists for their sports accelerator—a program that boasted of over 600 applicants. After access to $120,000 and a list of over 80 experienced mentors, each of those 10 startups in the accelerator had a demo day at Dodger Stadium, showcasing their final product or service.focusmotion-sdk

One of those startups, FocusMotion, a company that algorithmically tracks movements with wearables, announced a few new initiatives at the demo day. In particular, FocusMotion declared their enterprises into the world of physical therapy and workplace. They are working on methods of examining how wearables can better impact the average person, and not just the athlete. This means looking at how to better assist a physical therapy patient at home, and how, say, a warehouse worker who lifts boxes all day can do so in a manner that will prevent injury.

This differs from their traditional approach of tracking player training and recovery, determining correct forms and postures, in addition to when an athlete may need to rest their body.

FocusMotion has already been vetted and leveraged by a number of other brands besides the Dodgers and R/GA, with names like Samsung, Microsoft, Pebble and Fitocracy partnering up with FocusMotion.

In developing their advancements to the physical therapy market, FocusMotion worked with two companies familiar with helping physical therapy patients at home—Reflexion Health and FORCE Therapeutics. Both parties work on the at-home patient, developing methods of instruction, communication and tracking to ensure their users can recover in the quickest possible manner.

Finally, Kinetic and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health helped FocusMotion on a study that attempted to identify a number of lower back pain risk factors that are associated with manual lifting in manufacturing work.
