Golden State Warriors’ Kevin Durant Invests In Silicon Valley Tech Startup


Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant is adding to his portfolio, as cloud data management company Rubrik announced Tuesday that the NBA Finals MVP would join its team as an investor and board advisor.

A Palo Alto, Calif.-based company founded in 2014, Rubrik provides a Cloud Data Management platform that helps businesses, governments and nonprofit organizations keep and use their data. Rubrik provides data protection, search, analytics, archival and copy data management.

“I invest in game-changing companies with a winning spirit,” Durant said in a statement. “Rubrik is a rising tech powerhouse taking on a $48 billion market opportunity. I’m excited to support (Rubrik co-founder and CEO Bipul Sinha) and his team as they build a global brand.”

Through The Durant Company, Durant is a venture capital investor in technology companies including Postmates, Acorns, Propel and Zenreach. To date, Rubrik has raised more than $292 million in funding from leading venture capital firms. According to the company, Durant will use his experience in creating a global brand empire to provide advice on strategic initiatives and also content development through his Thirty Five Media business arm, which includes his YouTube channel.

“Kevin has deep business relationships around the globe and he has created a brand that represents excellence and authenticity,” Sinha said in a statement. “We are thrilled to welcome Kevin to the Rubrik team.”

At VMworld in Las Vegas, Rubrik is donating $2 for every shot made by attendees at the expo to the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation.
