After announcing plans to release their very own quadcopter, what is better known as a drone, in the first half of 2016, GoPro finally has an advanced prototype. The company released footage of their Hero 4, which is available to buy, attached to a quadcopter. According to the release, there was no post-production stabilization used on the footage, meaning that this drone shoots very smooth footage.

This type of big brand name coming to the world of drone videography could see drones becoming an even bigger presence in the world of sports. One can find drone usage in games ranging from football to golf. Their overhead views have helped NFL teams to review footage in a way they have not been able to in the past, and golfers have been able to track their ball’s flight in a brand new light. But, the drone’s power is not just limited to these two sports, and if GoPro puts the price at a very affordable margin, it will surely find its way into entirely new avenues of the sports world.

The GoPro quadcopter will be entering a very competitive market, varying from a consumer’s cheap, rigged quadcopter to the sophisticated Airdog, which can automatically follow the user from a certain altitude and distance.

GoPro will have to rely upon their brand name and seemingly fluid footage for this drone to really take off.
