Horizon Summit Expo: From Data Analytics to Fan Engagement


A range of sports technology startups showcased their products at the San Francisco 49ers and SportTechie Horizon Summit. Attendees had the chance to discuss the handling of consumer and athlete data to improve fan engagement and sports performance, or to learn more about how sports betting is changing the way we interact with our favorite teams and leagues. And then they could put down their notebooks and business cards and get even more interactive with augmented reality apps, experimental AR and virtual reality experiences, or try their hand at throwing or hitting balls against a giant video game screen.

Apollo Program

Apollo Program focuses on making unstructured consumer data both understandable and actionable. It captures, organizes, and analyzes billions of data points around consumer digital and physical behavior, aiming to help drive better business decisions.

Armchair Quarterback

Armchair Quarterback develops second-screen games for fans to play alongside live sports events. The company’s app sits at the intersection of the fantasy and sports betting markets. It allows users to predict upcoming plays in real time during games in exchange for a chance to appear on a leaderboard, and win prizes and money.

Block Six Analytics

Block Six Analytics uses data to help sports brands understand their return on investment across a variety of metrics, particularly sponsorships. The company can determine sentiment across social and media platforms, and determine placement values of logos appearing on athletes and in venues. It counts the Cleveland Browns, the Detroit Lions, and the LA Chargers among its clients.

Eilers & Krejcik Gaming

Eilers & Krejcik Gaming focuses on the gaming equipment, sports, and interactive gaming sectors within the global gaming industry and sports betting sectors. Its services include market research, company research, consulting, and advisory services for brick-and-mortar and online casino operators, technology suppliers, social gaming operators, gaming regulators, and institutional investors.

Fanisko

Fanisko has built a mobile software development kit that allows clients to plug fan analytics directly into their existing apps. The company can provide clients with gamification and augmented reality tools that are customized for each brand to further drive fan engagement.

Fun With Balls

Fun With Balls merges sports and video games to build interactive experiences that can drive fan engagement. At  Horizon the company showcased its new product, multiBALL, which can transform any wall into physically active video game. Players hit or throw balls against the surface and can use it to brush up skills in sports from football to tennis.

HappyOrNot

HappyOrNot kiosks are used throughout the San Francisco 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium. Terminals ask consumers to grade their experience by selecting from a range of faces that span from happy to sad. The 49ers have used this to help power their game day analytics to help tweak and cater fan experience based on customer feedback.

Helios Interactive

Helios Interactive builds experiences for consumers using technologies such as touch and gesture recognition, and virtual and augmented reality. One of the company’s goals is to develop better brand interactions and collect meaningful end-user data. Helios has developed AR experiences incorporating NFL players and customizaable tickets for NBA fans.

Kinduct

Kinduct provides an athlete performance management system, helping to monitor strength and conditioning training as well as injury and rehabilitation. It has a robust list of clients in the pro sports world, including USA Baseball, Major League Lacrosse, the Orlando Magic, and the LA Kings.

MVP Interactive

MVP Interactive aims to help drive stronger brand experiences across custom software, product design, and social media. The company connects brands and fans through technology such as virtual reality and augmented reality at live events, gesture control, facial recognition, and mobile applications.

NIMBL

NIMBL is a data analytics company comprised of nearly 2,000 consultants with a focus on deploying SAP cloud products to help businesses transform their processes. It focuses on providing companies with analytics and other intel that can be visually delivered and digested.

SponsorUnited provides its customers with a way to evaluate and value sponsorships, media, and brand partnerships. The company has clients across the NFL, the NBA, MLB, and the NHL, and is aiming to democratize sponsorships from local events to pro sports, and from small businesses to large brands.

StellarAlgo

StellarAlgo aims to convert data into actionable insights for major sports leagues. Its services range from customer segmentation to the implementation of machine learning that can use behavioral data points to aid in player retention and recruitment. StellarAlgo counts the LA Galaxy, Sacramento Kings and the Vegas Golden Knights as clients.

SuiteHop

SuiteHop is a platform that enables fans to book luxury suites for sports and entertainment events. Its marketplace lists suites from more than 270 venues. The mobile app enables suite owners to rent out unused or empty suites to a national audience.

Swish Analytics

Swish Analytics uses machine learning to provide predictive insights about sports betting and fantasy. The company’s mobile app provides predictions to help end users make better bets on every game, player market, and statistic in the NBA, the NHL, MLB, and the NHL.
