He’s the social media quarterback for Super Bowl LI in Houston.
For veteran digital strategist Jeramie McPeek, who captained social during Super Bowl XLIX two years ago in Phoenix, he’s a one-man-band with a five-person supporting cast for everything social in the lead up to Sunday’s Big Game at NRG Stadium.
Since joining the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee as a consultant in September, the former Phoenix Suns staffer of 24 years has been putting in 20 to 25 hours a week for social and the handful of platforms the Host Committee leverages, including Twitter, Periscope, Vine, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.
Over the past two weeks? Try 200 hours total as he manages and posts a majority of the Super Bowl content. McPeek said that he’s assisted by a few Host Committee members who capture photos and video clips at other events around the city and then route those to him, with McPeek calling social a “total team effort.”
Compared to even just a few years back in Phoenix when the New England Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks, the channels have continued to evolve, now offering McPeek the chance to go “live” on Facebook, Instagram Twitter and Periscope. Snap, Inc. recently debuted its Spectacles for McPeek to utilize while Vine’s functionality changed, too, in 2017.
It’s all a balancing act, as he McPeek said, when he decides to capture a Super Bowl press conference on Periscope or broadcast a Matt Ryan interview on Facebook Live.
“We want to give people a real-time look at what’s happening at all of these events, and we can cover it more in-depth,” McPeek said about how all of the current platforms help him bring fans to Houston and the Super Bowl via social. “… Fans can actually watch everything ‘live’ and see you walking through the 100,000-person crowd at Super Bowl Live and really feel what it’s like, feel the atmosphere, hear the music going on at the concerts, see the different interactive exhibits that fans can participate in.
“I think it gives fans a totally different perspective versus fans just seeing a short video clip or a few photos. I’m really excited to do that.”

Regardless of where the content comes from, either through the Host Committee or outside accounts such as the NFL, Patriots, Falcons or FOX, McPeek said that he wants NFL fans to feel like the Host Committee accounts were a “great recap of everything happening on social” around Super Bowl LI.
