Hudl Acquires VolleyMetrics To Expand Volleyball Tools

VolleyMetrics, a video and analytical software platform for volleyball coaches and athletes, has been acquired by coaching platform Hudl, which provides similar services for a wide range of sports.

In a statement, Hudl Chief Operating Officer Matt Mueller said this will enable Hudl to provide teams at every level — youth, high school, club, collegiate and pro — the tools they need to improve, while giving athletes a platform to potentially get noticed by scouts.

“Hudl has a proven track record of working with elite organizations to innovate and improve workflows for the entire market,” Mueller said. “VolleyMetrics brings an unmatched level of elite volleyball knowledge, an amazing product, and a passion to help teams win.”

Hudl’s technology will expedite how quickly VolleyMetrics’ game video and statistical analyses get into the hands of clients, which include 350 collegiate and professional organizations in the volleyball community, according to VolleyMetrics CEO Giuseppe Vinci.

“We’ve learned valuable lessons by working with some of the game’s most elite and innovative teams and coaches. Having the infrastructure Hudl provides only enhances those relationships,” Vinci said in a statement.

In 2013, VolleyMetrics was founded after Vinci helped the U.S.women’s national volleyball team secure a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics by providing in-depth opponent and performance analytics.

Earlier this year, VolleyMetrics was named the Official Video, Breakdown, and Analytics Partner of USA Volleyball through the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Hudl, which offers an online platform that coaches and athletes can use to review video and statistics, has nine other sports in addition to volleyball, including soccer, basketball, lacrosse, football, track & field, wrestling, ice hockey, golf and baseball/softball.
