HypSports Is Launching A Fantasy Sports Platform For Esports

In the last decade fantasy sports has boomed. Piecing together your own team brings you closer to the game and for many it creates an increased interest in the sport. Now HypSports is bringing something to the fantasy sports world that has boomed in a similar fashion: esports.

Through the HypSports app (available on Apple & Android devices, Google Play and Facebook) fans of the game League of Legends (LoL) can create their own fantasy eSports teams.

The competition will be based on the League of Legends Championship Series. Rather than drafting a team like a normal fantasy league, participants will craft and improve their team as the season moves forward.

“We have seen certain free-to-play features work phenomenally well in mobile games and believe that the same mechanics can take fantasy sports, particularly fantasy eSports, to a whole new level,” HypSports CEO Mike Taramykin said in a statement. “Sports fans are competitive by nature. What we’re doing is gamifying live sports and eSports to create a season-long quest and competition for millions of worldwide fans.”

Given the amount of notable executives and former athletes investing in esports, HypSports should have no problem finding those eager to play. Since its beta launch in November, the app has engaged more than 60,000 fans in football, basketball and baseball competitions.

Fans of esports are used to passively watching their favorite events via a stream or broadcast. HypSports hopes to take things a step further with this platform by giving fans a chance to get involved in the action.
