Intex Technologies, an Indian mobile handset and consumer electronics company that owns the Gujarat Lions of the Indian Premier League, has announced its entry into funding startups. The first startup to receive funding from Intex is Rooter, a social gaming platform that connects, engages and helps soccer, cricket, tennis and basketball audiences interact with one another on a real-time basis during an event, featuring live-match predictions, quizzes and chat forums.
“Rooter is a great concept, which is gaining exponential numbers suggesting that its popularity is zooming by the day, making a wonderful business idea,” Keshav Bansal, Director of Intex Technologies and Gujarat Lions owner, said in a statement. “As sports is an extremely emotion-driven phenomenon and the sports fan engagement platform is complete uncharted territory, Rooter has limitless scope for growth.
“By funding start-up ventures like Rooter, we want to take a bran Intex to the next level where it connects with the global audience.”

Rooter will be using Intex to strengthen its technology team as well as aim to increase its sales and marketing team while adding to its content division to bolster the apps on iOS and Android.
The funding will also help accelerate the app’s expansion into Southeast Asia markets, enabling the company to look to create partnerships with sports teams and leagues worldwide.
“It gives us immense pleasure to have received funding from Intex, one of the fastest growing consumer electronic and mobile phone companies,” Rooter founder and CEO Piyush Kumar said in a statement. “Rooter is essentially a tech-based platform and we wanted to have an investor on board who could also be our strategic partner and help us evolve our product to fully realize its potential.”
