We’ve written about the problem the MLB faces in protecting its pitchers in the past, and today, a major step was taken to give pitchers another option to protect themselves on the moutn.

Pinwrest Development Group, a majority owned subsidiary of 4Licensing Corporation, have entered a multi-year licensing agreement with Major League Baseball to create and market MLB-branded protective caps for baseball. This means that the caps they create will be available for everyone, starting at the youth level continuing through the professional ranks.

On the products, which is set to hit the market later this year, Chief Executive of Pinwrest, Bruce Foster said, “This new, over-the-cap model is a major advancement in protecting pitchers and other fielders against these scary incidents that have become all too frequent in recent years,” and added, “We look forward to working to create a safer environment on the field for players of all ages.”

isoBlox, which is owned by Pinwrest, which is made to fit around the top of a player’s cap, is created from flexible plastic plating which utilizes a combination of energy dispersion and energy absorption to diffuse impact. The hedged, hexagon-shaped, inter-connected plating is designed to deflect initial impact and then flex in order to absorb residual force.

Every year, we seem to see a few pitchers get hit by a line drive. It is one of the scariest things in sports and the fact is, pitchers are at risk of suffering a life-threatening injury every time they are out there. It is definitely nice to see the MLB partnering up with companies to try to fix this problem and do what it can to keep players safe.
