Jason Giambi, a retired Major League Baseball player, has recently partnered up with ex-Colorado Rockies general manager and current MLB Network analyst Dan O’Dowd and EON Sports VR to launch EON’s new interactive hitting simulator, Project OPS. This new innovation aims to improve strike-zone awareness and pitch recognition for hitters.
Giambi aims to change the world of baseball with this virtual reality innovation. “The Strike Zone awareness simulation is unparalleled in baseball today,” Giambi said in a press release statement for Project OPS. “I can’t imagine what the game would have looked like if we had this technology when I broke into the league in the mid-‘90s. Many kids live in cold weather climates where you can’t get out on the diamond every day. This solution allows hitters around the world to practice real-life applications and situations wherever they are.”
The new technology offers more than 30 interactive virtual reality strike zone awareness challenges with the ability to receive a lesson and participate in interactive challenges on a variety of baseball fields. Giambi also provides interactive tutorials throughout the 360 training experience. Project OPS is a new tool for players accessible 24/7. See additional features here.
“I’ve stood in the box against some of the best and most intimidating pitchers in the world.” Giambi said. “They were so good at changing up their pitches, at times it was almost impossible to anticipate what they would throw. But with the EON Sports VR Project OPS, you are prepared for anything that a pitcher will throw at you.”
Project OPS is just an example of the exciting possibility for VR use in baseball. The world of virtual reality innovation is booming and with new technology to simulate real-game experiences, to new gadgets to watch NBA and more games, the future of sports is looking more and more virtual.
