La Liga has revealed details of a project to help its soccer clubs develop their own apps. So far 18 teams have signed up, although the initiative is open to all clubs and La Liga expects more to join.
The apps will feature basic information about stadiums and player and team statistics, and will connect to social media and integrate multimedia content.
The clubs that have signed up include 6 from La Liga‘s top level, and 12 from the rung below. The half dozen from the Primera División include Deportivo Alavés, Eibar, Getafe, Rayo Vallecano, Real Valladolid, and SD Huesca. From that list, Getafe ranked the highest in La Liga last season, finishing in 8th place. Spanish soccer’s biggest teams are absent, in large part perhaps because they likely have the resources to develop their own fan apps.
“The creation of official apps for LaLiga clubs is another step forward in our work to be closer to the fans and to offer the best technology to our clubs,” said Alfredo Bermejo, La Liga’s digital strategy director, in a statement. “We believe that the fans of the clubs involved will enjoy the content and that in the coming months we can introduce new improvements.”
The team apps will be available for both iOS and Android devices, and are scheduled to be released soon.
