The social video platform Grabyo has just announced their partnership with La Liga. The deal aims to enhance sports videos for hundreds of millions of La Liga fans. Grabyo will provide fans with instant replays and behind-the-scenes content. La Liga hopes to create a more engaged fan base that will contribute to larger merchandise sales as well as more sponsorship opportunities.
Grabyo focuses on real-time video as well as the ability to distribute content across multiple platforms in real-time. One of its new features is the square and vertical video, which generates formats compatible with the popular apps, Instagram and Snapchat. The startup that launched in London 2013 has worked with rights holders of the NHL, Ryder Cup, World Cup, Champions League and Wimbledon. “All major sports leagues are facing increasing competition for audience and fans,” says retired French football legend, Thierry Henry. “Having played for FC Barcelona, I know how passionate fans are all around the world. The partnership with Grabyo is a great way to connect with them.”

It is amazing to see the shift in the sports viewing experience. Fans are no longer relying on just TV to interact with their favorite teams. According to the Global Media Consumption Report, Seventy-six percent of Indian sports fans used their mobile devices to consume sports and 64% used social networks last year. Grabyo has taken the initiative to make sports more personable.
“This strategic deal with Grabyo will dramatically enhance the experience we offer fans on digital platforms and use the clubs and players as distribution channels,” comments Ignacio Martinez Trujillo, Managing Director, Innovation and Global Development at LaLiga. “Ninety minutes of football just isn’t enough for fans anymore. Yes they want real-time highlights but they also want interviews, special features and a whole range of footage around match day.”
