MLB.com released a new version of its popular At Bat app for the 2015 baseball season that includes Apple Watch compatibility available when the device releases on April 24.

At Bat on Apple Watch will give users the ability to check the latest scores, statistics and news and to dig deeper into the game with pitch tracker and player scorecards.

The goal of the watch version of the app is to allow users to get quick updates and stats from their favorite teams.

The app utilizes Apple Watch’s Glance View so wearers can simply swipe up from the bottom of the main watch view to see “glances” of customized information.

This is particularly useful for anyone who just wants to keep track of the current or final scores of their favorite teams.

The new version of the app also includes a number of updates for current mobile users including pregame lineup notifications (iOS), a new UI (Android, iOS), and team-by-team statistical data filters (iOS).

MLB At Bat on iOS, Android and Windows Phone allow users to stream through their MLB.TV subscription and watch the Game of the Day for free. This feature will not be available on the smartwatch version as the Apple Watch does not yet support video streaming.

Other missing features include the classic game video archive, ability to listen to radio broadcasts, and live-look ins.

The watch app, the only sports app to be shown at Apple’s Watch Event, has not been announced for Android Wear users. They will have to wait until their devices picks up enough steam. Thankfully, Apple’s entrance into the smartwatch industry will likely be a catalyst for its growth.

Apple Watch reviews have been slowly finding their way onto the internet. The general consensus being: it has massive potential.
