There are few innovations as fast rising as 3-D printing. The technology is everywhere and local and federal governments are trying to keep up with regulations of it as fast as they can.
Now that trend seems to be coming to sports as well.
3D printing is being taken to new heights by associations such as NASCAR and Formula 1 by utilizing the technology in totally new ways. Up and coming companies such as Changing Technologies are in a prime position to supply the sports world with cutting-edge 3D printing tools all while potentially maximize profits.
NASCAR and Formula 1 are using the technology to figure out electrical problems on their vehicles and also test new parts. NASCAR in particular mandated an electric fuel injector system installed in their vehicles which ultimately resulted from the use of 3D printing to successfully develop a 3D printed electrical enclosure. Nissan Motorsports is also building prototypes of new parts and is actually manufacturing the parts for the use of their V8 super cars.
“3D printing being accepted in auto racing and the global visibility that sport possesses presents potential opportunities that will expand the market significantly” said CHGT CEO Omar T. Durham. “With millions of auto racing viewers every year, the possibility for 3D printing to become mainstream is possible.”
As Durham states, the increased exposure due to the NASCAR popularity will inevitably push 3D printing from more of a niche tech to further into the mainstream. We will continue to cover new developments as this technology begins to make its way into professional and collegiate sports.
