NBA Becomes First League To Have 1 Billion Likes And Follows Across Team, League And Player Accounts

Earlier this season the NBA became the first organization to surpass 1 Billion Vine loops. Now they’ve announced a similar achievement across their collective player, team and league accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Chinese social media accounts, Tencent and Sina.

The NBA’s social media accounts are lead by 28.5 million likes on the league’s Facebook page, 19.5 million @NBA followers on Twitter, and 12.7 million @NBA followers on Instagram.

As far as the players and teams go, it’s easy to guess who has the most fans. LeBron James leads all NBA players on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, while the Los Angeles Lakers are the most followed NBA team on social media.

This social media success is a core factor in the NBA’s global brand. Nearly 90 percent of NBA players are active on at least one social media platform. The league overall has star players from all over the world and the game itself fits well into the structure of social media content sharing.
