NBC Sports Makes Major Acquisition Of Sports Software Company Sport Ngin

NBC Sports Group just acquired the nation’s largest provider of web software and mobile applications that cater towards teams and leagues of all levels. A total of 500,000 organizations use Sport Ngin, who NBC Sports wanted to purchase for the ease with which they allow sports teams to create websites and apps.

The Minneapolis-based startup has been on NBC Sports’ radar for quite some time now. The two groups have been in contact over the past year about ways in which they can work together. Eventually, NBC Sports decided on completely buying out Sport Ngin.

The details of the purchase were not disclosed, but the deal was finalized on July 1 and employees were alerted on Monday.

A few of Sport Ngin’s biggest customers are USA Hockey, Hockey Canada and USA Wrestling. Other than that, they primarily look to operate at the amateur or lower that professional level. The simplicity with which Sport Ngin allows their customers to communicate with fans, giving them a high-quality platform to sell tickets, place a schedule, post team news and much more.

The deal looks to be a good move for both sides, seeing that Sport Ngin was one of the fastest growing software companies in youth sports and NBC Sports will surely be stronger with it under its wing. Sport Ngin will, in turn, receive the massive brand recognition that comes with NBC Sports, along with the significant financial backing of the sports group.

Before this, Sport Ngin made a few serious moves in the industry, gathering a 2014 investment of $25 million. They have tracked $39 million in revenue. Last month, they even announced the creation of a sports tech innovation center, as they partnered with Rally Ventures. The center is located in Minneapolis and is called The Pitch.
