We recently covered Connected Cycle’s e-pedals that raised $50,000 in just 24 hours on Indiegogo, but they weren’t the only ones trying to bring technology to the cycling world. The Wave eBike is a new hybrid electronic bicycle that can go up to 28mph thanks to a power hub motor that is powered by a 48volt 750-watt hub motor which also gives it unique hill climbing abilities.

The 12-Amp hour battery, that takes about 5 or 6 hours to charge with the standard charger, allows the bike to go 56 miles on a single charge, which is 50% more than other ebikes. Users can also choose between throttle, pedal, or a hybrid mode to go on a ride pretty much anywhere as it is 100% street legal except in New York City. Adding to that versatility will be the ability to ride in the city, along the beach, in the mountains, at a park, or anywhere else due to the cross functional capabilities that the Wave eBike offers.

The Wave eBike, which is currently backed by 3,600 funders who have put together over $540,000, is on Indiegogo. With further funding, Wave eBike is looking to offer more colors, solar panel charging, bigger batteries, more seat options, LCD and cruise control as well as other options.

Aaron Brady, the founder of Wave Electronic Bike talked about how this can be a fun way to help the environment, and went on to say, “We wanted to create a bike with a utilitarian purpose.  The Wave eBike allows riders to switch between electric, hybrid or manual, without having to purchase multiple bikes.”

While they were originally thinking of only manufacturing 200 units, they are now bumping that number up to 500 due to positive reviews. The Wave eBike, which may ship around July at an affordable price of $549 for early bird crowdfunding backers, will be competing in a somewhat overlooked industry as an estimated 185,000 e-bikes were sold in the US in 2013.
