For the first in the NHL, a fantasy sports technology and content provider, Hotbox Sports Ventures, has entered into a sponsorship deal with one of the league’s thirty teams. This partnership is with the New Jersey Devils and it will introduce a new style of fantasy sports gaming to hockey fans around the world.
Part of the deal entrusts the Devils with the promotional duties of the Hotbox Sports website through in-arena advertising, media, and social channels, while Hotbox introduces an original entry-fee game that only focuses on Devils games and their players. The initiation of the new entry-fee game makes the Devils the first pro sports team in the U.S. to be involved in a pay-based fantasy deal. It will be interesting to see if more teams follow suit and enter into sponsorship agreements with fantasy sports companies like this.
“Hotbox Sports is very proud to be working with the New Jersey Devils on this new and engaging fantasy game for sports fans,” said Terry Lyons, Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Business Development for Hotbox Sports Ventures, in a press release.
With the popularity of fantasy sports at an all time high, the new partnership offers Devils fans an opportunity to further engage and enhance the experience of watching their favorite team. Their approach to fantasy sports will deliver a social and team-focused game that will aim to give Devils fans a fun fantasy experience, while raising the bar for gaming engagement for professional sports in the United States.
