Norwich City has today announced a new agreement with sports science software company Kitman Labs.

Silicon Valley’s leading sports science technology company has installed the Kitman Labs system at Norwich City’s training ground.

The system, which is the most advanced of its kind in the world, is being used by Norwich City as part of their injury prevention and athlete monitoring strategy.

The Kitman Labs solution is being widely used across the globe. The NBA’s Detroit Pistons announced their partnership earlier this month, joining the likes of Everton, the Miami Dolphins, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Ireland Rugby at the forefront of the evolution of performance.

Stuart Wardle, First Team Physiotherapist at Norwich City, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Kitman Labs. Gone are the days of reactive physiotherapy, and we have worked hard to make injury prevention and player welfare part of the culture at Norwich City.

“Utilising the Kitman Labs system is part of the players’ daily routine and with the physiotherapy and sports science departments working closely together, we are able to analyse the data quickly and in real time to be able to spot any problems that require focused assessment or preventative measures.Capture screenshot 3 (1)

“Kitman Labs means we spend less time analysing the data we collect from our screening protocols and more time working on interventions with the players to really have an influence on injuries.”

Stephen Smith, founder and CEO of Kitman Labs, said: “Norwich City really are at the forefront of performance technology and we are excited to be a part of that journey with them.”

He added: “Football is in the midst of a science and technology revolution, and Kitman Labs is at the heart of it.”

Founded in 2012 in Dublin by Stephen Smith, former Head of Athletic Training at Leinster Rugby, Kitman Labs has grown rapidly and opened US offices in 2014.

Built by practitioners for practitioners, Kitman Labs has partnership agreements across the globe, with clients including the Irish Rugby Football Union, Bath Rugby, the NBA’s Detroit Pistons, the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers.

About Kitman Labs

Kitman Labs is a sports science technology company that has developed the world’s most advanced performance management system and injury prevention technology for professional sport. Using a combination of statistical analysis, machine learning, and scientifically proven techniques, Kitman’s system can dramatically improve decision-making within a club on an athlete’s treatments, training programme, and injury risks. This technology is now being rolled out across professional sport globally.

The Problem – Injuries

Injuries are big business, with the cost of each injury in the Premier League averaging in excess of £400,000 each. That’s £190 million in total throughout the league last year. In the US, these figures are even higher. As much as $700 million a season is wasted in Major League Baseball, paying out wages on players that are unavailable to play due to injury.

The Solution – Injury Prevention

Many sports injuries can actually be prevented. There are hundreds of research studies outlining the benefits and effectiveness of sports science techniques in preventing sports injuries. Until now, these techniques have been difficult to implement in a professional environment where decision-making happens quickly.

Kitman’s system changes the rules on how teams can assess athlete performance and predict and ultimately prevent injuries. Athlete data can now be collected more easily than ever before, and using the system’s breakthrough intelligent alerts, a team’s back-office staff has the right information at the right time, which drives key decisions, and enables timely interventions with the athletes, helping to avoid injury.
