Designers at NOVA have created a solution alleviating dangers associated with late-night running. They are introducing the world’s first self-illuminating jacket which lights up at the press of a button. The jacket offers visibility at three settings: low, high and blinking.
NOVA’s patent-pending LightGuide technology eliminates any need to carry a bulky flashlight during your evening run. Instead, a half-ounce, concealed battery ensures you will be seen from up to 450-feet away. Fully charged, the battery lasts up to eight hours, meaning so long as you’re going out for anything less than a 50-mile run, you’ll be visible to passersby.
“Because traditional reflectors are not efficient in low light conditions or blind-spots, forty percent of runners are at high risk of injury due to night time motor accidents,” NOVA co-founder Sid Amalean said in a statement. “With NOVA, people can focus on their run without worrying about personal safety, secure in the knowledge that they are visible to oncoming traffic.”

The jacket is machine-washable and made of a water-resistant fabric, letting you run in any weather. NOVA is also targeting cyclists and general outdoor enthusiasts as well.
NOVA launched the product Monday morning on Indiegogo with three different perk levels being offered. Each level offers a little bit more and all have a rough delivery date of May 2018.
