Philadelphia 76ers Partner With Safety Tag To Simplify Youth Camp Paperwork

The reality is that 10 to 15 percent of children that play youth or high school sports have a history of asthma, allergies, diabetes or history of concussion. It is also the reality that more often than not, the paperwork with this information gets left on a clipboard in the coaches office or lost in the shuffle with other papers in a box.

Safety Tag is providing a solution to this by giving coaches and league administrators the tools to access and track all of the vital information on these forms via smartphone or tablet.

Safety Tag last week announced a partnership with the Philadelphia 76ers to bring its technology to the Sixers Basketball youth camps, beginning with the Sixers’ annual Holiday Hoops Camps, which ran from Dec. 26-29.

“Safety Tag fills the gap between health information parents are already providing to sports programs and real-time access to that information on the court or playing field,” Michael Buono, CEO of Safety Tag said in a statement. “Quick access to this information in an emergency can be critical and aid in any follow-up treatment that might be needed, while making sure that required information is obtained and available prior to taking the court.”

Parents upload emergency contacts, any special conditions and upload waivers to the app, eliminating all of the actual paperwork.

Through this, coaches have access to a player’s personal safety file, utilize the injury/incident reporting tools that automate and expedite the claims process, go through roll call, and allows the staff to message parents and guardians.

For athletes that play more than one sport or are a part of more than one camp, each one of their coaches has access to those players’ files and can upload any new injuries that they suffer, making sure that everyone who needs to know about the injury does.

“Safety Tag brings our camp’s health information system into the digital age, adding another layer of security, compliance and safety on the court,” Sixers Camps director Todd Landrey said in a statement. “Our goal is to provide opportunities for children to grow as athletes, individuals and members of a team. Adding Safety Tag to our program just makes sense and demonstrates our continued commitment to ensuring everyone has a fun, safe experience at camp.”

Safety Tag has partnered with other youth events, including the safety clinic in Boxford, Mass. for the 2016 Masconomet youth football season that was hosted by The Bill Belichick Foundation.

Safety Tag is also working on expanding their partnerships with more camps and high schools through Virtua Health System in New Jersey.

“You think about a kid’s playing sports in high school and they don’t have trainers, so hospitals send trainers out here,” Buono said in an interview with SportTechie. “So we are looking to partner with those trainers so when they show up to the field or court, they have all of the information already linked up to their device. Instead of having no idea who is playing, they have all of the information right at their fingertips.”
