PointsBet Partners With EML Payments to Launch Prepaid Card for New Jersey Bettors

EML Payments launched a reloadable payments card on Monday for PointsBet sports bettors in New Jersey. The PointsBet-branded card allows N.J.-based users to deposit funds into gaming accounts and access winnings instantly.

Australian online bookmaker PointsBet launched its New Jersey online and mobile platform last week. With the newly announced card, bettors will receive real-time payouts that can be used online, in-store, in-app, or at ATMs. EML had previously announced plans for a PointsBet-branded payment solution after the two firms signed a multi-year agreement in November.

“The launch of the PointsBet reloadable payments card represents an exciting time in sports betting for both PointsBet and EML,” said Jamison Jaworski, president for the Americas at EML Payments, in a press release. “Both companies understood the importance of being first to market with an acquiring and payout solution to enhance the PointsBet gaming experience, boost brand loyalty and meet the challenges of today’s rapidly evolving U.S. online sports betting landscape.”

EML Payments and PointsBet each have Australian roots and a heavy presence in the continent. This is EML’s first payment program for a U.S. sports betting operator. The company now operates 11 branded reloadable prepaid programs in the gaming industry across Australia, Europe, the U.K., and the U.S., according to EML’s press release.

“Our relationship with EML has allowed us to quickly and seamlessly integrate a withdrawal method that is unique to the U.S. sports betting market,” said Johnny Aitken, CEO of PointsBet U.S. “While other sportsbooks are still trying to figure out how best to payout winnings to their players, PointsBet is able to focus on making continual improvements to our existing process and providing a VIP experience.”

According to EML’s press release, the company will launch more state-specific payment card options for PointsBet as additional states legalize sports betting in 2019. In PointsBet’s announcement for its New Jersey product last week, the company said it had partnered with Tioga Downs Casino in Upstate New York. That could lead to the launch of a PointsBet sportsbook in the Empire State should New York pass laws to legalize sports betting.
