Polar is introducing a wristband that will allow the wearer to track heart rate and and sleep patterns in a new way. The Polar A370 will combine 24/7 continuous wrist-based heart rate with Polar Sleep Plus analytics to give wearers a complete view of their fitness based off activity, rest and recovery. The watch is marketed towards people who are looking to “find balance between activity and rest.”
The watch automatically measures heart rate while a person is exercising and while he or she is resting. It measures heart rates at a minimum of five minute intervals, and it can measure when users are doing higher levels of activity like running or walking based on the way their wrists are moving. The watch also measures resting heart rates every five minutes and combines these metrics with the heart rate measurements to help customers get data that will help them achieve their fitness goals.

“The utility of traditional heart rate monitors has been limited to workout sessions only; but what about the other 23 hours of the day? Understanding those hours – whether spent training, resting or doing light activity is crucial to achieving fitness goals,” Tom Fowler, President of Polar U.S.A, said in a statement. “Polar-developed continuous heart rate to fill that critical gap. Now, we’re enabling users to take charge of their fitness with a 24/7 perspective on their heart rate profile, activity levels and even rest and recovery.
The watch is available for preorder on Polar’s website and will begin shipping in June. The wristband costs $179.
