Ranked as “the best club of the 20th century,” Real Madrid announced yesterday a new partnership with Microsoft. The goal of this new partnership is to create a new digital platform that will help fans connect in a new, unique way.
Microsoft’s Chairman and Corporate Vice President of Emerging Markets, Orlando Ayala, described the deal in an official blog post: “We’re excited to be helping Real Madrid transform their business with Microsoft services and devices, such as how Surface Pro 3 will be used by players and coaching staff as key work tools,” he said.
“But above all, the digital platform we’re designing with Real Madrid is maniacally focused on putting fans at the center, and opening access and control of rich content and experiences that bring them closer to their passion for the game and the team.”
All of the content on this new platform is fully customizable. Fans will be able to choose the “what”, “when”, “how”, and “where” of the social and digital experience. Whether they want to create beautiful visualizations of player matchups or view key game stats, Real Madrid fans can use this new dynamic digital platform to fuel their passion for the game of soccer.
This deal with Microsoft is the first of its kind for any sports team. Using the newest cloud technology, Microsoft hopes the success of this new digital platform will catch the attention of other major sports organizations.
In Real Madrid’s press release, Ayala said, “It’s an honour to be at this temple of world football. We’re taking a step forward alongside one of the leaders of world sport. Together we will make Real Madrid a model to be followed by the sports industry.”
This organization already has one of the most passionate fan bases of any team in the world. By embracing new technology, Real Madrid hopes to continue to grow their popularity base and engage fans like never before.
