Recap: “The Evolution of Sports Media”


 
Sports and Tech Meetup (Bay Area) presented an all-star panel on November 27 discussing: “The Evolution of Sports Media.”  The panel of entrepreneurs, executives, investors, and journalists discussed how technology and the natural disruption of markets are fundamentally changing how sports are presented and covered.

The panel also weighed in on how these changes affect a variety of parties from old and new media businesses to fans to leagues to startups and what new big innovations and opportunities lay ahead. You can watch the full archive in the video above.

Sports and Tech Meetup is for anyone in the bay area who is interested in sports as well as technology, business, media, or startups. The group hosts monthly events featuring interesting speakers in the sports and tech world.

November’s panelists included:

Pete Vlastelica – Senior VP of Product Strategy at Fox Sports. Former Founder and CEO of Yardbarker (acquired by Fox Sports Interactive).

Christine Anderson – Creative Director, Sportsvision (the company behind the yellow first down line shown on football television and many other leading augmented reality innovations to sports TV).

Carlos Silva – Managing Director, Park Lane (Investment Bank focused on the sports industry). Former President and COO of Universal Sports and Head of AOL Sports.

Katie Baker – Staff Writer at Grantland (ESPN). Past contributor to Deadspin, The New York Times Magazine, The Wall Street Journal and other leading publications.
