The tech world has worked to earn your trust via mobile portals on the biggest Sunday of the year. This week, we’re looking to determine if the Super Bowl has done the same, offering a review of the official NFL mobile apps specifically developed and/or updated for Super Bowl XLVIII. Our focus today is the NFL Runner: Football Dash app.

One quick note of clarification: there are three particular apps removed from our review this week, including NFL Mobile (the official league app, a known commodity and source of news for football fans updated accordingly), NFL Pick ‘Em (a traditional game of choice sports fans during the regular season, leaving one more game to pick), and the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee Volunteers app (a special application designed by enterprise superfirm SAP AG in support of the league’s volunteers working the event… though we’re betting, based on SAP’s reputation, its outstanding).

As the only game app we reviewed this week, NFL Runner may leave hardcore Super Bowl fanatics wanting more. This endless runner is a football-themed version of Temple Run, providing users with a ball carrier from the team of choice to maneuver through a series of obstacles in search of coins and power-ups to collect points. There are some minor social integrations allowing users to challenge friends to compete, in-app purchases open functions such as customized jerseys and player names and numbers, and updates allow users to play with Pro Bowl reps from Team Sanders or Team Rice as well as special options available from this year’s Super Bowl combatants (the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks).

There are a plethora of endless runners available for download, and while NFL Runner provides the fun of that format to the football fanatic, the updates for this year’s Super Bowl are rather mundane, the customer review complaints about lag are warranted, and the overall effort falls short of earning rank among the more popular runners (much less encouraging increased recommendation as a special opportunity for the event). That said, if you enjoy Temple Run… you might enjoy it more with Russell Wilson (Peyton Manning… not a runner).
