Since renovations began on May 3, more than 1,900 workers and over 780,000 hours were put into the completion of the AT&T Center, home of the San Antonio Spurs. The updated facility was transformed to a completely new look and feel and fans can expect a better experience throughout the arena.
“We are extremely proud of the new AT&T Center; with improvements made at all levels of the arena, fans will have an enhanced experience with improved technology, new seating and an array of new concession options,” said Nelson Wolff, a Bexar County Judge.
Bexar County, where the arena is located, was a vital part of funding for renovations, along with Spurs Sports & Entertainment. The county implemented a Bexar County Visitor Tax, which helps fund the construction of venues and related infrastructure to enhance economic development and tourism in Bexar County. The tax was voted for in 1999 to build the AT&T Center and again in 2008, voters approved the tax as funds for improvements to the center.
The $110 million in technology and infrastructure renovations of the AT&T Center held a mini opening during the Spurs first home preseason game on Oct. 18, but a rededication ceremony for the arena is scheduled for Nov. 6, as well as a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Whataburger restaurant within the arena.
Fans can experience the updates of the arena throughout each level. At the Plaza level, there is now a larger, renovated Fan Shop and an addition of Whataburger. The general public can even access Whataburger during non-event days.
At the H-E-B Fan Zone level, the NE and SE corners added a new bar area. The north side now provides more shopping for fans with the addition of another Fan Shop and the east porch has even more culinary and drink options.
The Charter and Terrace levels also had updates of new décor and furnishing within the Frost and Dahill Saddles and Spurs Clubs and every suite. The addition of 14 new four-seat Theater Boxes in the Terrace level offers better views for events and a more intimate entertainment experience.
The renovations at each level were just a small portion of increasing fan experience. The technology enhancements were actually the key area of focus. More than 600 HD TVs were installed throughout the arena, LED displays showcase game action, event highlights and promotional messages to the NE, SE, and SW ticket towers. Over 12,000 square feet of LED displays can be seen throughout the arena. There is also a 360-degree LED ribbon in the upper bowl.
The main focus of the technological updates was the custom-designed digital video system. The main video board is now four times the size of the previous one, with HD resolution. There is a brand new control room to operate the new digital video system.
Fans can be more engaged with improved Wi-Fi, new audio system, and LED lighting in the bowl. There is all new seating throughout the arena and enhancements to entrances.
“This was a substantial project in a condensed timeline,” commented Spurs Sports and Entertainment SVP of Corporate Finance and Strategy, Lori Warren. “It could not have been completed without the selfless collaboration of all those involved. The end result is a first class facility that the community can really be proud of and we’re excited to experience the all-new AT&T Center.”
The renovations focused on creating a unique experience for fans, and with more than 250 events annually at the AT&T Center, fans are sure to have a great time, no matter were their seats are located.
