Kitman Labs has partnered with the Seattle Sounders, its first partnership with a Major League Soccer team. Kitman Labs is a sports technology company that aims to change the way a team handles athlete injury management. Through actionable alerts coaches and trainers are able to provide each player with a customized, comprehensive player care strateg which takes into account each player’s individual health and performance.

“Using analytics to predict injuries has to come down to understanding the interactions of everything,” said Dave Tenney, Sports Science and Performance Manager at Seattle Sounders FC. “There’s never one single metric that’s going to be predictive of an injury. Kitman Labs’ biomechanical screening product Capture delivers accurate information within a simple use model that is truly unique. The ability to benchmark and measure our athletes’ asymmetry with frequency may give us the ability to accurately assess injury risk, and thereby increase opportunities to reduce injury occurrence.”

The technology allows physiotherapy and sports science departments to analyze data quickly in real time to focus on preventative measures for its athletes. The ultimate goal is to allow players and their coaches to focus less time on analyzing the data with the ability to analyze it more quickly and in real time.

Kitman Labs’ Senior Director of Sports Science and Performance, Gary McCoy, believes the company’s technology enables its customers to gain the most from the system.

“As a sports scientist for 25 years, I’ve had the glaring realization that it’s never one thing when it comes to athlete injury – it’s a combination of factors,” said McCoy. “The athlete is a complex moving system, and Kitman Labs’ quest mirrors mine: simply, the evolution of athlete performance. For this reason, the opportunity to contribute with like minds is very exciting.”

This Sounders collaboration comes soon after Kitman signed deals with the Detroit Pistons, Norwich City FC, and Everton FC. So their player monitoring tech is clearly being adopted all over the world and in different sports.
