Sleepman Hopes To Become The First Sleep Enhancement And Fatigue Alert Device

For the last few years, fitness wearables have become increasingly aware of how vital the sleeping pattern is to users, whether they’re professional athletes or an individual simply trying to fit exercise into their busy work schedule.

Sleepman has dedicated an entire wearable solely to tracking sleep, in the form of a bio-signal monitoring wristwatch. It’s beginning to become a known fact, but the ‘8 hours’ traditionally required for an individual to perform at their greatest the next day may not be as true as originally thought. Scientists and start-ups like Sleepman are now claiming that the deciding factor of sleep is when we wake up.

If an alarm is used to wake us up at a set time, and goes off during a deep sleep, this can reduce the effectiveness of the entire sleep by a long way, taking a lot longer for us to reach optimum focus and ability. Sleepman has recognized how important this aspect of sleep is and is one of the features it promotes.

The device monitors sleeping patterns and will wake up the user when they are in a ‘light’ sleeping phase, closest to their desired wake up time.

Some of the features that are unique to this new device include a power nap alarm, doze off alert – for drivers, heart rate monitor as well as the traditional sleep and activity tracking technology used in many other wearables.

There are also some exciting new innovations that will be introduced by the Sleepman – one of those being the Sleep Enhancer. The Sleep Enhancer aims to increase the overall quality of sleep through a small electrode that attaches to the palm of the hand. The electrode emits a series of micro-current impulses that increases deep sleep from the standard 20% up to 40%.

Another brand new feature is the InsomniZap – an application that aides those who have difficulty sleeping (particularly children) to have a more relaxing experience when trying to fall asleep. The application can be installed on an iOS or Android device and features a series of pictures and activities that link directly with the Sleepman device.cf9fa2fb3be6f5d36018cacf317c3d79_original

We have seen glimpses of this sleep tracking technology in fitness wearables, but Sleepman hopes to differentiate by focusing solely on sleep. Sleep is one of the most undervalued parts of not only fitness, but life in general and the Sleepman seems to be addressing the issue.

The team at Sleepman are currently running a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of reaching $50,000 to cover production costs. If all goes to plan, the product will be available in 2017.
