As the love for sports continues to expand throughout our nation, so does the need to have the latest up-to-date information as fast as possible. The fastest way to do that no matter location is through the mobile platform.

Many developers are currently competing to create the next best advancement in the mobile sports application field. The Sports Feed app, developed by Mike Wadhera, a former Chief Executive Officer at Oracle, is one of the many players in this market. His application is driven by the same motivation that many others have had before him: to be the most up-to-date mobile sports application out there.

More specifically, Wadhera says, “We (Sports Feed) want to do for mobile what ESPN did for TV by bringing truly great design and engineering to a category that is close to many people’s hearts.”

The app, itself, is a database of all the news stories and scores from around the world. It provides fans and users instant access to the news and scores they care about in one constantly updated stream. Sports Feed does this by customizing the stream to the user’s interests through two toggle options at the beginning of the app, when one first opens it.

The first toggle option allows the user to decide between which leagues he or she wants to see on his or her feed. The league options include: the NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAAB, NCAAF, MLS, Golf, and Tennis. There is currently no NASCAR option or European/Non-American Soccer League option yet, but one can only imagine that will be added in one of the next updates.

The second toggle option asks the user to search for his or her favorite teams by typing them into the search bar at the top of the screen. The user can search by city or team name, and can switch on or off which teams he or she wants to follow while on the app.

After these toggle options are set, the user is launched into the app, with an option that one can allow Sports Feed to send notifications to your mobile phone (without opening the app) if there is breaking news about one of your teams.

Inside the application, there are four main tabs. First, the customizable news feed appears when the app is first opened. The news feed includes stories from only the sports and teams the user selected, when he or she set up the app. Additionally, these stories come only from the most reputable sports sites out there.

Sports Feed’s interface is continuously researching and reading hundreds of sites to make sure it has the most up-to-date information for each individual user that logs on to Sports Feed. Furthermore, what makes Sports Feed stand out even more is that everything is in one place.

“We built Sports Feed to save fans time. It surfaces only the most important stories for just the sports and teams you care about into a single news feed,” commented Wadhera to The Wrap.

Any news story one wants to read is there; and the stories are being updated in real-time, even without pulling to refresh the feed. Sports Feed is bringing the most recent information almost as soon as it is published, and fans can be confident of its accuracy because Sports Feed only uses the most highly-regarded sites for its information.

The second tab is for live scores from your favorite leagues and teams. This tab holds the feature that truly makes Sports Feed at the forefront of mobile sports applications. Not only are the scores organized by team and league, but they also update in less than 30 seconds continually as the user is on the app.

Wadhera is reported as saying, “Our optimized sub-30-second delivery network means scores magically update without having to pull-to-refresh. Once you follow a live game with Sports Feed, you’ll never want to use your old clunky scores app again.”

Additionally, the live scores bring the user to the CBS Sports Game Tracker link, providing the fan with the game recap, statistics, and play-by-play of the game with one tap.

Third, fans are provided with a schedule of the live games on tap for that day, allowing them to see which network the games are on and what time they start.

Finally, the settings tab allows the user to change what teams he or she wants to follow with a simple swipe, and allows the user to import their Yahoo Fantasy Football roster right into the app. This feature provides the fans with real-time tracking of their fantasy matchups while inside the app. There is currently no option for users to import their ESPN Fantasy Football teams, but one can expect that feature to be added sometime in the near future.

Sports Feed’s Chief Executive Officer, Wadhera, is always looking towards the future, and while he knows that he has already had success with this app, he has plans in mind to move forward.

“We’re starting by focusing on a daily sports app you can use to stay informed on iOS and Android, but we’re excited about the future of mobile extending into wearables and plan to be developing for Apple Watch.”

The app has just released its 5.0 update, with new features that allow posts and photos to become more prominent when users tap on them, creating a simpler interface for the user to read.
