SportsGuru Gives A Voice To The Fans With Their Video Sharing App

SportsGuru is looking to give fans a voice by providing a media outlet specifically for sports fans to post their own video content, and to do it in a unique way.

SportsGuru is a social media app that allows a fan to record a 60 second video to talk about their favorite sports topic. The aim of the app is to create a social media platform for fans to share their opinions while giving each video it’s own professional feel. On SportsGuru, once a person records their video they will add unique video effects that make it look like the user has their own talk show. Once the video is uploaded, it will be posted and tagged under the specific sport that is the topic for all other users to see.

Ken Zamkow, the CEO of Sports Guru, realized that to “post a video you need to know how to edit the video, and posting them takes a lot of time. It requires specific skills, and [he] believes fewer people share their ideas via video because it’s so time consuming.”  With SportsGuru it’s as simple as making a profile and then recording a video. All of the editing is done for the user. “One problem that I noticed is the magnitude of videos to sort through online and the multiple distractions. With Sports Guru, we strictly talk sports,” said Zamkow. The app is setup similar to the likes of Twitter too. On Sports Guru the user can follow users, like, and comment on any videos.

One of the bigger events that they have covered is this past Super Bowl 50, where they had content from a few players on the World Champion Denver Broncos team such as Bennie Fowler, Josh Bush, Britton Colquitt and Aaron Brewer. They were also at Super Bowl 50 Media Day featuring content from celebrities such as J.B. Smoove.

Moving forward, SportsGuru will be covering the next biggest sporting event, March Madness. “We’re currently working on partnerships to promote the app to some of our top fans. For March madness we’re looking to partner with schools about doing a “call to action” for fans featuring sports video on properties,” said Zamkow.

SportsGuru is using their video content not only for fans to have access to the latest sports media on their app, but they also would like sports teams to use the app to feature fan content during games. “Fan content from social media is more commonly being used to engage fans during the games. With SportsGuru, we compiled a database for the teams to be able to share fan content at the game, through either geometric fencing or simple activation of the content,” says Zamkow.

To help increase fan engagement and content SportsGuru will be providing a March Madness Contest for users. The most talented video distributor decided by SportsGuru will be sent to the 2016 NCAA Final Four, and National Championship game on their behalf to cover the games with flights and accommodations included.
