Company name: Wesii
Founder(s): Mauro Migliazzi, Andrea Carapezzi
Headquarters: Wylab, Chiavari (Italy)
1. What is your elevator pitch?
Wesii has developed a special remote sensing aerial platform based on multispectral and thermal sensors which flies over the pitch to perform an analysis of the turf surface. The drone/aerostat acquires general information on the field condition not visible by sight, such as the moisture content and the biomass. With this analysis, the maintenance of the fields (football, but also golf) is increasingly targeted and effective. The information collected will allow players to give their best performance and fans to enjoy exciting matches. Knowing the grip and the ball speed can influence the choices before or during the competition.
2. Problem & Solution
In sports like football and golf, the field conditions are fundamental: a bad bounce can frustrate millionaire investments; a ruined pitch can affect the coach in the choice of the players; have a constant monitoring of the field allows targeted investments reducing the waste of money. The multispectral analysis provides an “X-ray” of the pitch.
3. Market – your target market and the overall market
The market that revolves around drones sector is quite extensive. Football and golf are markets very vast and rich and always looking for a more intensive use of technology. We turn to the companies that manage the maintenance of the fields, but also to Federations that have to check the status of the field before every game, television companies and bookmakers interested in new parameters, such as the pitch, for the listing of games. We investigate many parameters: surface temperature, color intensity, turf quality, drought stress, pest problems, relative nitrogen content and soil moisture.
4. Business Model – how do you make money?
We offer a tool to assess, strictly, the pitch conditions with drones and mapping techniques used in precision farming: this process is able to highlight issues of turf before they become evident on the ground.
