Stephen Curry, Hunter Pence Streamed Their Mario Kart Races On Twitch

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry provided some more star power to the Coral Sword Games Cafe, a Houston coffee shop for gamers that is being opened up by San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence and his wife Alexis.

Curry stopped by last week before the Warriors faced the Houston Rockets to play Mario Kart with the Pences. The hour of racing was all streamed on Twitch, enabling fans to interact live with the famous gamers.

Curry is not as much of a gamer as is Pence, who invests in esports and streams on Twitch, but the two-time MVP did say he had about 50 hours of experience playing as “an amateur Mario Kart-ist.”

“Why am I more nervous for this than the NBA Finals?” Curry joked of the friendly competition between a couple of Bay Area athletes who have brought home two championships each in their respective sports.

The promise of Twitch as a platform was on display as well, with Curry reading the comments from fans as he played video games.

“This night went from watching Zelda credits to Steph curry on the steam,” Curry said, nodding as he read one of the comments. “That’s strong.”

Curry also got a kick out of one comment noting how one Mario Kart characters had a gangly resemblance to a famous teammate: “Kevin Durant is built like Waluigi lmaoooo.”

Usually it was Pence who got the best of Curry in the racing. At one point while passing the All-Star point guard racing as Yoshi, Pence joked, “See you later, Yoshi. Idiot.” The two laughed.

But Curry did have his moment, for a time racing to the front of the pack. He got excited and exclaimed that someone watching on Twitch should take a picture of this. In fact, one captured video of the moment and immediately posted it on the comments section for Curry to see.
