Super Bowl 50 Winning Wide Receiver Invests In Headphone Newcomer Muzik

In the wake of the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl 50 victory, Demaryius Thomas has more to celebrate than just his team’s win. The Pro Bowl wide receiver recently announced his investment in headphone industry newcomer, Muzik.

Muzik started raising funds for their social media connected headphones in 2012 and they are ready to launch this May. The wireless headphones offer a range of features: long-range wireless Bluetooth connected, interchangeable earphones, total noise isolation, sharing capabilities, easy track/volume control, and real time sharing.

The headphone company has entered the market at a very competitive time with the hopes of going head to head, at a similar price point, as industry giants Beats and Bose. Their Muzik Convertible headphones will start at $299.00 and their smaller in-ear headphones, Muzik Sport, debuting later this summer will cost $199.00.

Muzik has raised $18 million total in investments since 2012 and Thomas is not the only big name partner that has joined up with the headphone company; Twitter has invested as well. The social media platform has invested in their first ever hardware, for an undisclosed amount. Muzik’s niche function allows users to share their location and songs in real time with their app directly to Twitter.

Demaryius is diving into the tech world at a time when it has become very popular and financially viable for many other accomplished pro athletes.

The Super Bowl champion wide receiver joins a list of some of the sports world’s biggest names to invest in tech; LeBron James, Derek Jeter, Carmelo Anthony, Andre Iguodala and more.

James and Jeter both are founding partners of new media platforms Uninterrupted and The Players Tribune, respectively. The two websites were founded to allow athletes to have their voices heard without filter or media bias.

Carmelo Anthony started a venture capital firm, Melo7 Tech Partners, and since then they have invested in some big names in the tech world such as SeatGeek and Lyft, as we wrote about last year.

The 2015 NBA Finals MVP, Andre Iguodala, is picking the brains of some of Silicon Valley’s biggest players and has made investments in: Twitter, Facebook, Tesla, and Apple.

While Thomas will continue to be seen in commercials for tech giant Lenovo throughout the year, only time will tell if his headphone investment will pay off. But for Demaryius and other athletes, the world of technology seems to be one they will continued to investment in.
