TaylorMade Golf recently introduced its new RSi Iron line that incorporates the new and innovative Face Slot Technology. The company gathered data from thousands of fittings and found that nearly 76 percent of all shots with irons are mis-hits, where the ball strikes outside the center of the face. This is a problem for golfers because striking the ball with the center of the face is where the greatest ball speed is achieved.

Positioned at the toe and heel of the RSi Irons, the face slots are cut through the face on either side of the score lines and filled with an epoxy compound. The slots allow the face of the club to flex more easily and protect ball speed to provide more consistent shots after a mis-hit.

“Face Slot Technology provides greater consistency across the face, giving players improved performance on mis-hits,” said TaylorMade’s Director of Product Creation for Irons, Putters and Wedges, Tomo Bystedt.

“No golfer is perfect, not even the best players in the world hit the center of the club every time. So, with RSi, we’re giving all golfers a technology that can help their mis-hits perform more like pure strikes.”

The RSi line also features new and improved Speed Pockets that protect ball speed, launch angle, and spin rate for shots that are hit below center. These two new technologies will work together to create a larger sweetspot. The forgiveness the technology will give to shots near the heel, toe, or bottom of the club will provide golfers of all levels better shots off of mis-hits.
