Telemundo To Introduce Virtual Reality App For 2018 World Cup In Russia

Telemundo is providing users with a virtual reality app for the 2018 World Cup to accompany its Spanish-language broadcast of the World Cup in Russia.

The World Cup virtual reality on-demand experience will allow fans to watch live select matches through a virtual VIP suite and feel like they are in the stadium. The fans will view the matches through a “super wide angle feed” while watching the TV signal. VR content in the app includes 360-degree short-form content, 180-degree content and near-live multi-angle clips of the game. The app will be available on multiple mobile devices with a VR headset.

Telemundo will have access to create much of that content. It will present the Spanish-language broadcast of the World Cup next year, with Telemundo Deportes featuring more than 700 hours of coverage, including 56 matches on Telemundo and eight on Universo. The network also has a lineup of daytime shows that will be produced in Moscow. The coverage can be live streamed on desktops, tablets, the Deportes EN VIVO app and on connected TVs.

“Telemundo continues to drive growth in Hispanic media with original content that resonates with today’s Hispanic in the U.S.,”  Cesar Conde, Chairman NBC Universal Telemundo Enterprises said in a statement. “Latinos are evolving and they are influencing our economy and mainstream culture more than ever. Telemundo has evolved with them by offering innovative entertainment, news and sports, fulfilling their growing appetite for quality programming in Spanish across all platforms.”
