Globe Life Park, home field to the Texas Rangers, has a new glow to it thanks to power management company Eaton. Eaton has installed their Ephesus sports lighting system in the ballpark, which helps the Rangers in three different ways.
First, the LED lights are much more energy efficient than their predecessors, saving the team quite a bit of money in power. Eaton’s lighting is saving the Rangers more than 60 percent of what they were paying earlier.
Also, the color temperature of the new stadium lights makes a broadcaster’s job quite a bit easier. They have to make fewer adjustments as dusk breaks in Texas, and so far have noted no flicker or video loss.
Finally, Ephesus has an in-arena, fan engagement aspect to it. The system comes with a DMX control system, so operators can work with the flicker or tone of the lighting. This will give their game operations staff a new tool when trying to mimic something like lightning or fireworks with the use of the stadium lighting.
Eaton is putting on a showcase of their technology at Lightfair International 2016, where they will explain much of what they are doing for teams like the Rangers. Globe Life Park is not the first stadium to be treated to the Ephesus lighting system—other stadiums like the University of Phoenix Stadium, where the Arizona Cardinals play, have radiated with Easton’s product.
Two more NFL teams will also transition to Ephesus lighting this offseason, as the Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings are being outfitted by Easton at the moment.
