Fantasy sports have certainly evolved. Gone are the days when you could wait hours to make a big waiver claim.   All providers now have easy to use apps that can be accessed on-the-go and roster moves can occur with a click of the button. This has led to fantasy sports being as competitive and popular as ever.

There are also  few worse feelings for a fantasy player than missing the upstart running back, who rushes for 200 yards in week one and is picked up almost immediately.

theScore, a sports app used by more than 4.2 million monthly mobile users, is here to once again give you the edge in your fantasy sports league. theScore is now offering new Player Alerts, that enable fans to be notified in real time when someone scores a goal, makes an assist, or receives a penalty.

What could be most important to the fantasy sports player is vital player news, primarily injuries that can keep fans up-to-date on the status of the players on their team.

Player Alerts are a part of the latest update for theScore for iOS and is currently available for the NHL and NBA, with MLB being rolled out at the end of the summer and NFL getting set to launch before the start of the new season.

“For fantasy sports fans this feature is a real game-changer,” said Jonathan Savage, VP of Product at theScore. “theScore has always been the perfect app for the sports fan on-the-go and now – with Player Alerts – nothing will get in the way of tracking your fantasy sports team.”

Player Alerts for Android are due in the fall, while this latest update for iOS also includes:

  1. Better Social Sharing: A more intuitive menu offering Facebook tagging and Twitter @ mentions.
  2. Deeper League Stats: Flip your device horizontally in the “Standings” area to see even more stats.
  3. Improved Alerts Management: It’s easier to configure and customize the way alerts work and “Default Alerts” let you can choose which players you automatically receive when you follow teams, events, players, and leagues.
  4. Optional On-boarding: A new optional on-boarding tutorial that will teach you how to follow your favorite teams and become familiar with the app’s key features.

theScore app is available on Android, iPhone,BlackBerry, Windows Phone, iPad and iPad mini and mobile web.
