Timex, Indian Startup BLINK Partner On New Activity-Tracking Watch

Timex, one of the world’s largest watch manufacturers in collaboration with an Indian consumer technology startup BLINK, has released a new watch, the TIMEX | BLINK, which is a product of Timex’s watchmaking experience and BLINK’s technology.

The new watch tracks users’ activity, including steps, distance, calories and sleep, and uses Bluetooth technology to connect with their phones.

“At TIMEX our focus has always been to use innovative technologies and offer timepieces that meet the demands of our consumers,” Anupam Mathur, Head of Sales and Marketing at TIMEX Group India Limited, said in a statement. “TIMEX | BLINK is yet another effort in that direction. We generally give up our style quotient when we are on the go as it is tough to manage both style and fitness together in today’s busy schedules. TIMEX believes that its consumers do not have to give up on their style for functionality or vice versa. The watch is for the modern men and women who demand a fit and active lifestyle as well as are always connected on the go. It combines modern technology with TIMEX’s trusted craftsmanship and American legacy to give consumers more than just a watch. It is an ideal fit for the men and women who are interested in tracking their daily progress but would not want to sacrifice the beauty of a traditional touch on their wrist, a best of both worlds.”

The activity tracker displays both time and battery level and also gives users notifications on their progress. The band is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.

“Both TIMEX and BLINK wanted to build a product that’s relevant to the Indian market in terms of functionality; yet have a unique design identity,” Somnath Meher, co-founder and CEO of BLINK, said in a statement. “The SOS feature has been integrated to specifically address a key requirement in our country; while keeping it discreet enough to not affect the overall features and look of the watch. The product nicely encompasses TIMEX’s years of experience in watch-craftsmanship; and BLINK’s forte in developing connected devices with a technology platform.”
