The NHL’s Vancouver Canucks have Perspective Films provide VR production for the franchise.
The studio’s custom-built camera and production equipment gives viewers a first-hand view of countless breathtaking experiences. For their partnership with the Canucks, viewers can feel as though they’re right next to the players in the locker room, during warmups and even on the ice during the singing of the national anthem.
The Vancouver-based film studio specializes in creating 360 degree video and virtual reality content for everything from live sporting events to vistas of the Canadian wilderness. Perspective Film’s content is optimized for environments such as online, smart devices, Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR and Idealens.
The studio was founded in 2006 by veteran cinematographer Chris Bedyk. Bedyk was involved in some of the earliest stages of the Oculus Rift platform and his passion to work in the immersive visual space grew from their. In 2016, the VR experiment with the Canucks turned out to be a success.
“It gathered quite a following and interest from a lot of people because it brings people right to game level and see the action from the eyes of many of the players,” Bedyk said. It was very interesting for a lot of people. We learned a lot from it, so we expanded that, took it even closer, and we’ve got some really neat footage that people can download from our app.
