Vodafone Has An App For SUB2 Project’s Quest To Run A Two-Hour Marathon

The latest obsession in running is breaking the two-hour marathon time. Nike has developed a team to attempt to achieve the time and now, Vodafone is also joining the challenge.

Vodafone has teamed up with the SUB2 project that is combining science and technology to help athletes to achieve their best performance levels. The SUB2 project believes that within five years, an athlete will run a marathon in under two hours.

The Vodafone SUB2 app gives athletes and coaches data that can help them to improve their performances. The app is compatible with smartwatches that have Android Wear 2.0, and with standalone connectivity, it does not need to be paired with a smartphone to work. The app helped runner Kenenisa Bekele, who holds the Olympic records for the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races, to measure the distance and speed of his runs in real-time by using Vodafone’s algorithm.

The app will ultimately be able to use sensors to measure heart rate, running economy, skin and core temperature and a live data feed of land and air temperature. And the more that athletes know about their runs, the more likely it is that they will be able to enhance their performances and break that two-hour barrier.
