With the tech companies that Silicon Valley has produced it should be no surprise that the two franchises in the NBA that are closest to it, the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors, are among the most tech savvy teams in sports.

Recently, the Warriors added to their tech-friendly resume by launching a new partnership with Sonic Notify to integrate proximity technology into their mobile app. The Sonic Notify service went live on March 18th at Oracle Arena and offers similar features to Apple’s iBeacon technology that is being rolled out this season in MLB ballparks.

Sonic Notify is an enterprise proximity marketing company and they are looking to help the Warriors create and execute proximity marketing campaigns by using their service which provides beacons, security encryption, content management system, analytics, and decisioning server. Sonic Notify’s technology works in conjunction with Apple iBeacon and Android Bluetooth Low Energy transmissions so it can reach a large number of fans. With this technology the Warriors will be able to provide notifications, messaging and content delivery when a fan is in proximity to a Sonic Notify signal or beacon around Oracle Arena. The most fan-friendly use cases include seat upgrade notifications, welcome messages, exclusive content, and in-arena offers such as displaying cheap seat upgrades.

“We are all about our amazing fans. They deserve the absolute best experiences possible, and the Warriors are on a continual mission to identify and leverage the right technology to enable those experiences to happen,” says Warriors’ Vice President of Marketing & Digital Kenny Lauer.

As we’ve seen with the MLB and now the Warriors, proximity marketing and the use of beacons to deliver content to fans has been increasing in the sports world. This partnership between the Warriors and Sonic Notify is the latest example of how teams are implementing technology to enhance their fan’s experience and build a tighter community.
