Professional surfer Kelly Slater, an 11-time champion, is having his surf session in the South Pacific featured in 360-degree virtual reality.
“It’s a new way of telling stories and the future of filmmaking,” surf director Taylor Steele said in a statement of virtual reality being included in the surfing film Proximity, which was filmed in conjunction with the VR experience. “You’re engulfed, you’re there physically and you’ll feel like you’re there with us.”
The footage features not only the 45-year-old Slater surfing, but also a look at it from underwater, and it was captured using the GoPro Omni, which utilizes six GoPro Hero4 Black cameras.
The film is produced in conjunction with Teton Gravity Research and Garage Productions.
