WSC Sports Supports Puerto Rico Basketball League After Hurricane Maria

AI sports video creator WSC Sports has given Puerto Rico’s pro basketball league, the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN), access to its technology for free as the island rebuilds from the damage wrought by Hurricane Maria in 2017.

WSC Sports works with dozens of teams and leagues, and counts the NBA as its biggest partner. Its platform automatically identifies action in a game and tags footage with intricate data, enabling the rapid generation of highlights and other video reels.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to use this platform to greatly improve our digital coverage and get our product out to our fans instantly,” said Fernando Quiñones, president of BSN, in a statement. “We thank WSC for reaching out to us during this difficult time, their impact has been overwhelmingly positive to our efforts as we continue to recover. This gives us an opportunity to effectively display our product, catch up with current technological needs and get noticed around the world.”

Tel Aviv-based WSC also has staff in New York. The company sought to help as a way to foster community and create excitement through sports after the devastating storm. BSN’s use of the tech is free this season. The league is currently deep in its postseason. La Serie Final Chrysler is tied two games apiece between los Capitanes de Arecibo and los Vaqueros de Bayamón.

“We are pleased to offer our technology platform to BSN to help them engage and connect with basketball fans across Puerto Rico, especially as the region recovers from Hurricane Maria,” said WSC Sports’ head of US operations, Shaka Arnon, in the news release. “WSC Sports is committed to help our partners bring the fans closer to the games and players they love, by enabling real-time, in-game video creation and distribution.”

Leagues such as MLS have touted WSC Sports as driving their digital fan consumption metrics “off the charts.” If the company can help boost interest in the BSN in the wake of Hurricane Maria, then not only will WSC have helped provide entertainment and a distraction as life on the island moves forward, but it may also be creating a future customer in the BSN.
