WTA World No. 1, Analytics Proponent Angelique Kerber Named SAP Brand Ambassador

An early proponent of SAP’s Tennis Analytics for Coaches technology, WTA World No. 1 player Angelique Kerber joined the technology and software corporation as a global brand ambassador.

The 29-year-old native of Germany regularly utilizes the SAP HANA powered analytics software, which is available exclusively for the WTA and on WTA-authorized tablets, with her coach Torben Beltz to analyze her performance pre- and post-match.

“We sit down together before the match to discuss the tactics against the next opponent,” Kerber said in a statement. “He’s able to explain with the technology where I can have more chances to go for it, and see how my opponents have been playing their matches that week.”

Added Beltz in a statement: “I look at the SAP app to see how the opponent is serving, how she’s placing the ball, and what she’s doing at crucial times. We try to focus on that to get Angie ready for the match.”

As a member of the WTA, which is the Official and Exclusive Analytics and Cloud Computing Partner of the tennis organization, Kerber became the world’s top player in 2016 when she won the Australian Open and U.S. Open. Kerber has 10 WTA titles since her debut in 2003.

“Angie is an incredible tennis player, and she is exactly the kind of partner that we look for both on and off the court,” Jenni Lewis, SAP Tennis Lead for the WTA, said in a statement.

Over the past couple of years, Kerber has delivered regular feedback to SAP so that it could continuously update and optimize the app for athletes to incorporate it into their training.

“It feels very good to be a part of the great team from SAP. It’s an honor for me to be an ambassador for this amazing company,” she said in a statement.
