The top 10 weirdest celebrations: Chicken dances, urinating dogs and carrots stored in shorts
1. Kevin Nolan's chicken dance
Having captained Bolton, Newcastle and West Ham during his career, it's fair to say that Nolan was a natural leader who commanded the respect of his team-mates whenever he stepped onto the pitch.
That didn't stop him imitating a chicken whenever he beat a goalkeeper, though, with the so-called 'cluck' celebration inspired by a mate's moves on the dance floor. It'd be interesting to find out what other midfield generals - Roy Keane, anyone? - made of it.
Fowl play?
2. Edmilson Ferreira's carrot-munching
Having a pop at opposition fans is commonplace in the modern game, but Atletico Mineiro midfielder Edmilson took the meaning of 'disrespecting your rivals' to a whole new level when he began to eat a carrot plucked from his shorts after finding the net against adversaries America Mineiro.
America - nickname: the Rabbits - didn't take too kindly to the gesture, with one player spitting on Edmilson and another attempting to hack him down. Still, at least the Brazilian journeyman got a healthy dose of vitamin A for his troubles.
Vegetables are good for you, but even so...
3. Mario Gjurovski's strip tease
Mario Gjurovski isn't exactly a household name for most football fans, but the Macedonian midfielder was briefly caught in the limelight after his bizarre reaction to scoring for Muanthong United in the Thai Super League.
Having notched what turned out to be the winner against TOT Sport,Gjurovskiremoved his shorts, placed them on his head and began to taunt the opposition fans. Those supporters weren't the only ones who didn't like what they saw: the referee, clearly unimpressed, showed Gjurovski his second yellow card moments later.
4. Kei Kamara's twerk
Karama didn't really have the impact he would have hoped for during his time in English football with Middlesbrough and Norwich, but he certainly made an impression after getting his name on the scoresheet for New England Revolution last month.
Kamara's comical hip thrusting is apparently known as 'twerking' by today's kids; the referee had no time for such Miley Cyrus-inspired moves, though, booking Kamara for his antics.
5. Italian amateur's diving headbutt
Scoring a goal is an opportunity for a player to send a message to his manager, typically about a lack of playing time or perceived mistreatment. One Italian amateur took this to extreme lengths during a clash between Potincelli and Riolo Terme, sprinting towards the touchline after converting from close-range and smashing his head through the glass of the dugout. That'll teach him.
Ouch
6. Francisco Gallardo - more than Reyes bargained for
Having progressed through the academy ranks at Sevilla and been instrumentalin the club's return to La Liga at the start at the millennium, Gallardowas rightly considered a highly important figure at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Even so, Jose Antonio Reyes got more than he bargained for when Sevilla celebrated a goal in 2001; as players piled onto one another in a collective outpouting of joy, Gallardo bent down and had a nibble on his team-mates's genitals, which led to a fine and suspension from the Royal Spanish Football Federation for violating standings of sporting dignity and decorum.
7. Wee Gordon Strachan
Strachan didn't let anything stand in his way as he forged out an excellent playing career with the likes of Aberdeen, Manchester United and Leeds, but the Scot did occasionally encounter an insurmountable obstacle.
After scoring in Scotland's 2-1 defeat by West Germany at the 1986 World Cup, the midfielder ran towards his nation's supporters in celebration. His progress was soon checked, though: Strachan attempted to hurdle over an advertising hoarding but found he was too small to do so.
A step too far for Strachan
8. Bolo Zenden's dad dance
Asamoah Gyan's fancy footwork on the pitch was matched with an equivalent poise off it, with the ex-Sunderland striker's celebrations always worth watching.
On one occasion, a surprise Black Cats victory at Chelseaprompted the altogether stiffer Zenden to join in with the Ghana international. Unfortunately for the midfielder, he resembled a dad at a wedding more than his mobile team-mate.
9. Finidi George's urinating dog
The 1994 World Cup wasn't short of memorable moments, from Diana Ross and Roberto Baggio's penalty misses to Diego Maradona's eye-bulging antics.
Nigeria forward George contributed when he chose to a impersonate a dog after netting in the Super Eagles' 2-0 victory over Greece. Not only did the Ajax wide man get down on all fours, he also pretended to urinate by lifting up his right leg, demonstrating an admirable attention to detail that's often lacking in similar celebrations.
George really went the extra mile with his celebration
10. Temuri Ketsbaia's raging bull
Coming off the bench to grab a last-minute winner for your team is the stuff of dreams and therefore tends to be followed with an ecstatic and rapturous celebration. Newcastle midfielder Ketsbaia had other ideas after grabbing the decisive goal against Bolton in 1998, however, choosing instead to tear off his shift and repeatedly kick an advertising board in frustration.
"I 've never watched it back and never will do," the Georgian later admitted. "I'm not proud."
