Berdych Enjoys More Miami Success


Tomas Berdych saved all three break points on Saturday to move into the third round of the Miami Open presented by Itau. The 10th seed advanced past #NextGenATP player Andrey Rublev of Russia 6-3, 6-2 in 72 minutes.

Berdych struck eight aces in the routine win and will meet 24th seed Gilles Muller in the third round. The left-handed Muller survived a tight second-round contest against Italian Andreas Seppi 7-6(3), 7-6(1). All nine break points faced in the match were saved.

Berdych, No. 14 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, is making his 12th consecutive appearance in South Florida and has fared well throughout his career at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament. In 2010, the Czech right-hander reached the final before falling to American Andy Roddick. Berdych also reached the semi-finals in 2008, 2014 and 2015.

#NextGenATP player Borna Coric earned the biggest of win of his 2017 season on Saturday by knocking out sixth seed Dominic Thiem 6-1, 7-5. Coric broke Thiem four times in the one-hour, 31-minute victory.

The Croatian improves his career record against Top 10 opponents to 4-15. He had started 0-3 against Top 10 players in 2017. Coric last beat a Top 10 player last August at the Western & Southern Open, when he beat World No. 5 Rafael Nadal.

The Zagreb native will meet Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the third round. The left-handed Mannarino beat 32nd seed Paolo Lorenzi 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
