• Gael Monfils seeks his 400th victory on the ATP World Tour when he meets a countryman who’s already achieved that milestone, Gilles Simon, at the Mutua Madrid Open on Monday. The 15th-seeded Monfils would be the 18th active man to reach 400 wins, joining fellow Frenchmen Simon (412), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (405) and Richard Gasquet (468). Monfils is 2-6 lifetime against Simon.
• Simon is one of six men in action on Monday who have surpassed 400 victories. The others are the 10th-seeded Tsonga, Philipp Kohlschreiber (405), Feliciano Lopez (433), No. 11 seed Tomas Berdych (596) and David Ferrer (698). Tsonga, who takes on Andrey Kuznetsov, seeks his first win since capturing the Marseille title on February 26 and welcoming his son Shugar on March 18.
• No. 16 seed Nick Kyrgios plays his first clay-court match since May 27, 2016 at Roland Garros when he meets Marcos Baghdatis on Estadio 3. Kyrgios is 16-4 this season with semi-final losses to eventual champions at Marseille to Tsonga, Acapulco to Sam Querrey and Miami to Roger Federer. Baghdatis, who has struggled with a right foot injury, seeks his first win since January 17.
