Jamie Murray Receives OBE From The Queen At Buckingham Palace

Jamie Murray made a special trip back from Vienna to London to receive his OBE at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

The Scot was commemorated for his services to tennis and charitable work at the investiture ceremony. Murray received his OBE from Her Majesty The Queen and was joined at Buckingham Palace by his wife, Alejandra, and parents, William and Judy Murray.

“It was a great privilege to receive this honour from The Queen,” said Murray. “It was an amazing experience and my first time at the Palace.

“It wasn’t something I expected so it came as a shock to me. You never think about these things when you are playing, but it is really nice to be recognised for your achievements.”

Murray had arrived in Vienna on Sunday, in case he and Bruno Soares had been scheduled to play their first-round match at the Erste Bank Open on Monday. With their first-round match then slated for Wednesday, the Scot flew home to collect his OBE, before returning to Vienna later on Tuesday, travelling straight to the airport from the Palace.

Murray made history earlier in the year when he became the first British male to reach No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings. He and Soares have won two Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and US Open this season and are chasing the coveted year-end No. 1 spot in the Emirates ATP Doubles Team Rankings. They will begin their Vienna campaign against John Isner and Scott Lipsky on Wednesday.
