Lindstedt/Groth Knock Out Third Seeds Murray/Soares


Sam Groth and Robert Lindstedt ended doubles play on Friday at Wimbledon with an upset over third seeds Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares, 4-6, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. The Aussie/Swedish duo hit 22 winners in the three-hour, nine-minute victory to reach the third round. Their next opponents will be Nikola Mektic and Franko Skugor, who defeated Julio Peralta and Horacio Zeballos, the No.15 seeds, 6-7(5), 7-6(2), 6-4, 6-4.

Earlier, British brothers Ken Skupski and Neal Skupski ousted eighth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 7-6(6), 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-3. Their third-round opponents, Marcus Daniell and Marcelo Demoliner, defeated Thanasi Kokkinakis and Jordan Thompson 6-4, 7-6(0), 6-4 in just over two hours.

Seventh seeds Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram needed three hours and 30 minutes to outlast Purav Raja and Divij Sharan 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 6-7(6), 10-8. The South African/American duo fired 14 aces to make their way into the third round, where they will face Hans Podlipnik-Castillo and Andrei Vasilevski. The Chilean/Belarusian pair advanced to the third round when their opponents, No.12 seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah, retired down 6-4, 7-6(3), 3-2.

Elsewhere, sixth seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcel Granollers beat Julien Benneteau and Vasek Pospisil 7-6(1), 6-3, 6-4 and Hugo Nys and Antonio Sancic defeated No.13 seeds Fabrice Martin and Daniel Nestor 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
